I enjoy historical fiction, and thought this book would be good fit because of that love. There were parts of this book that I loved. I loved that it was set in the state of Franklin, which I had never heard of before. It made me look into the existence of the state and the relation between the new state, North Carolina and Tennessee. I also liked all the western adventure that was included in the story. The beginning of the book was great, but I will confess, during the second half of the book, I felt like the story was a little bit harder to follow.
The story was an interesting one, and made me think about things in a different light. It wasn't my favorite book ever, but in reading reviews I seem to be in the minority. I felt like the second half was slow, and in parts too graphic for my sensibilities. :). In the words of Lavar Burton, "you don't have to take my word for it."
